Oil Lamp ~ Your Personal Flame

The Glass Academy Oil Lamp is an original product and class. This class now offers you the opportunity to create your own oil lamp with the help of our professional glassblowers!

In this workshop, you’ll shape molten glass into a beautiful, blown glass lamp. You will get to choose colors and swirl them in the glory hole flame to create a marbled color pattern. This glass will get blown out into a sphere, and students will use the jacks to create the top of the oil lamp. You will then squish the glass with the cork paddles and finally flatten the bottom with our taglia.

Designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike, this class offers the perfect introduction to hot glass techniques in a fun, relaxed studio environment. Create a one-of-a-kind keepsake while experiencing the magic of working with fire and glass at the Glass Academy.

Wherever you choose to display and use your oil lamp, our one-of-a-kind handcrafted glass keepsake will bring you joy for years to come.

You will make one oil lamp per ticket purchased. If you would like to make more than one, you are welcome to purchase additional tickets in the same time slot. Or come back again; our classes are repeatable!

We offer a $12 guest ticket which must be purchased if you'd like to bring a guest to watch your class, or if you don't want to make a product, but would like to watch the class from the "audience". Everyone in attendance MUST purchase either a class ticket or a guest ticket. This allows us to prepare the space accordingly. When purchasing a guest ticket, please put the desired class date and time in the notes.

YOUR CLASS TICKET PURCHASE INCLUDES...

• The materials, tools, and instruction to make ONE oil lamp per class ticket.
• The hardware for an oil lamp EXCEPT the paraffin oil (not safe for us to store near our furnaces/hotshop!).
  
• A demonstration of how to make the oil lamp from one of our class instructors. 
• A behind-the-scenes tour of our glass studio and BATCH Gallery, where you’ll learn more about our successful working art studio and the glass-making process.
• A coupon for 20% off all items in our gallery. This coupon can only be used on the day of your class or the day when you pick up your class product (if you choose to pick up your finished product in-person).

WHAT TO EXPECT, FAQ, & RULES

• Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, meet the other students, and browse the gallery.
• Classes are typically 1 to 1.5 hours long. However, the duration may vary depending on the intensity of the project and class size.
• This is an entry-level class. No prior experience is necessary!
• Closed-toed shoes are required and we suggest that you wear cotton, as it will be hot in the shop.
• Before you can take your beautiful glass creation home, it must cool from 1200°F to room temperature. Once completely cooled, your glass keepsake is ready for pickup from our studio OR we offer free shipping directly to your home if you live in the United States.
• You must be at least 16 years old to participate in our classes. However, those under 16 years old are welcome to purchase a guest ticket and watch the class.
• We have a beverage counter and bar in our space. We do not allow class participants to drink alcohol before their class. When your class is complete, head to the bar to chat about your experience! 
• Last call at our beverage counter is 15 minutes before our gallery's closing time. If you are the last class of the day, please be aware that we may not be able to accommodate you at the bar when your class is complete.
