2nd Design: Recycled Glass

2nd Design: Recycled Glass

Our 2nd Design blue color is made mostly by the metal cobalt. After a day's work in the studio, we mix some of that in with the recycled glass.

In the melting process, the glass turns into a stunning shade of blue that has become a hallmark of the Glass Academy's glass art. When you come to the gallery, be sure to check out the varying hues of blue found on the 2nd Design display.

With a strong focus on sustainability, the Glass Academy shows how the process of glassblowing can be both beautiful and eco-friendly during our class tours. We have proven that with a little effort and creativity, it's possible to make something gorgeous out of what would have otherwise gone to fill a landfill. The attention to detail, and respect for the environment, make them a must-see collection!

The Glass Academy is an inspiration to others looking to reduce their impact on the planet while creating stunning works of art. Be sure to come and see the variety of products made with this glass, and support this great insight to resourcefulness!

For this year's Glass Eggstravaganza, we made three signature eggs including this 2nd Design Recycle Blue option.

Glass is made from sand, soda ash, and limestone. By recycling glass, we reduce the need to extract these raw materials from nature, reducing the strain on natural resources. And there is nothing wrong with recycling the glass, it still retains all its properties so we can shape and form it the same way we can with clear crystal glass.

Since recycling glass benefits the environment, conserves natural resources, saves energy, and reduces landfill waste, we've been called to recycle since day one here at the Glass Academy. Maybe it’s time you picked up some of this special blue glass for yourself! Check out our recycled glassware collection here.
