Super Star ™

The Super Star medallion is an original designed product and class ONLY from the creators of the Glass Academy. You’ll enjoy your unique handcrafted glass accent for years to come as you display it proudly in your home.

This one hour class will consist of students working with our talented instructors to create, shape and form a decorative solid glass home accessory that makes YOU feel like a Superstar!!

No experience necessary for this fun and unusual class!

Color is applied in various forms to create designs in the glass or on the surface of the glass.  To create the arms of the star, you’ll need to push the molten glass into shape using various hand tools.  Roll it on the marver, flatten it out to your desired shape pull or stretch the glass to the finished shape you’d like to have giving it character AND style!!

This is a entry level class, so no experience working with glass is needed.  We supply all the tools, color, and materials.  You will make one start per class but can sign up multiple times to make more than one the day you choose.

What should I expect when I come to the class?

Our instructors will start out by giving you a bit of background information on the process and how to navigate the studio safely.  Next comes a demonstration on how the product is crafted, what the finished product will look like, as well as ideas and tips to get a great color pattern in the glass.

We’ll explain hot shop safety zones, how to sit at the bench and use glass specific tools, then you’ll be ready to start.  Students will then step over to the bench to make their star using supplies and color specifically set aside for this class.

Teachers will demonstrate color patterns, shapes, and styles, along with gathering the glass, turning the pipe, and keeping the glass on the punti rod.

Watching others is the best way to learn techniques so be prepared to sit and watch fellow students as they make their stars.  You may go first and be done, or you may be last and will get your turn after the other students have gone.  Remember, you’ll learn by watching so it’s important to watch others and learn how to work with the glass.  At times you’ll participate as a group so be sure to bring your camera and feel free to ask others to take that perfect shot if you attend the class alone.

Will I be going home with the finished glass Star tonight?

Once colored and formed, the student’s stars will go into a cooling oven to relieve stress and be brought to room temperature.  This process is called annealing and takes about 12 hours.  Then our craftsmen will check the finished stars to make sure they are 100% ready to leave the studio.  New to the studio?

Also included in this class is a behind the scenes tour of the Glass Academy.  Projects the studio is working on, new shows and events coming up, and a chance to talk with the staff about all your glass questions.  The tour takes 10-15 minutes depending on the size and questions in the group.  You’re guaranteed to learn something new about the Glass Academy during this tour, from the founding partners to the history of the studio and upcoming projects.

What to wear:

The studio could possibly be cool and nice in the winter/fall months or hot and sticky if it’s summer.  However, inside, it’s always bursting with excitement and possibility!  Cotton clothing is a best, regular jeans are ok and layers work best to stay warm/cool as needed.  Open toed shoes, flip-flops, and heels are not an option; you will not be able to participate should you wear them.  Bring other shoes to change into or you’ll forfeit your class to another student or will have to reschedule ($10 fee).

Water or sports beverages are a great idea so bring what you need. Please stay hydrated!  Water is always available during class.

Follow the link on this web page, or come to the studio to sign up.  Please arrive no sooner than 15 minutes prior to your class.  Expect to stay at least 1.5 hours but give yourself longer as you might just want to stay longer to check out the studio!  All classes are age 16 and above.

Added perks for you!

Any class you come to and participate in, you’ll get 20% off gallery purchases that night, as well as when you come to pick up your work.  Ask for the special coupon when you come to the studio.
