The Ultimate Vessel Experience

The Ultimate Vessel Experience is not for the faint hearted.

No prior know-how is required, but is highly recommended that you take at least one of our other classes before venturing into this more advanced world of glassblowing. So if you are already one of our amazing patrons, this class is especially for you! It is packed with a punch and offers an exciting experience you’ll never forget!

This class is in three parts, beginning with our famous “Big Bubble Blow.” For this exercise you will use a hollow tube to blow molten glass into the craziest glass bubble ever! This will help you understand how the molten glass moves and cools. It also shows how much pressure is needed to fill molten glass with air from your lungs.

After the Big Bubble Blow you will be given a chance to use our optic mold, which gives the glass a star-shaped texture, to make a beautiful decorative object we call a “pezzi piece.” Your creativity can run wild while you have fun learning about techniques and how to use tools that were designed thousands of years ago.

Now that you’ve gained a wider perspective on the world of glass and an amazing wealth of knowledge, you have a better understanding of how to make a drinking vessel. Using everything you’ve learned, we come to the main event: you get to make your choice of a cup, rocks glass, or shot glass!

The adventure begins with the gathering of glass at the end of a pipe and making a starter bubble. We will then use a block made of cherry wood to shape the bubble and blow to make a Q-Tip shape. After this step is established we will then take what we learned from making the pezzi piece and create a neckline so that we can break the bubble free from the pipe and transfer it to a punti rod. Transferring the bubble allows us to open it up into what will become your drinking vessel.

Take note that we are not training you to become a glassblower. True glassblowing takes many years to learn and perfect. This is, however, a wonderful opportunity for you to make a wild and wonky vessel to add to your collection, to show off to your friends, and to enjoy for years to come!
