Fall Covid update: Glass Academy classes are starting to reopen on a smaller scale. Classes will be back in November so start planning for the holiday gifts and a treat for yourself! Covid has hit our small business hard due to the lack of class revenue so it is our intention to bring back classes in full capacity as soon as we think it's safe to do so for our staff and our customers.
Thank you for understanding! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the studio.
Your experience will start with a tour of our studio so you’ll begin to understand the range of glassmaking items that are possible within the field and other important things like the bathroom and a safety check.
Once you are introduced to your instructor, they will start with a demonstration of the 3 activities you will be participating in during this experience.
Your first activity will be our Big Bubble Blow; this will show you how much pressure is needed to fill molten glass with air from your lungs. The trick here it to create a perfect round bubble.
Next, we’ll teach you how to use some of the sculpting and blowing tools. With one gather of molten glass, you’ll be making a sculptural item.Twist, pull, and reheat the glass to understand how to move with a 5’ pipe of molten glass without dropping it on the floor, learning how to use gravity and other tricks of the trade.
Now that you have gained some perspective on the world of glass, you will be making a drinking vessel. That’s a conversation with your instructor, some drawing and discussing necessary step to use everything you’ve learned. You’ll get to make your choice of a cup, rocks glass or shot glass!
Bring your camera or phone; there are so many opportunities for great images to be taken.
