Sign him up for a Glassblowing experience with us. Our creative and talented staff has pulled together a special class just for the fathers in our lives. Offer Dad the chance to get down and dirty making (or at least attempting to make!) his own drinking vessel from hot molten glass.
In this class, dads will be working on some variation of a drinking vessel. Rocks glasses, pilsners, tumblers or shot glasses are all options to make. The real question is can your dad take the heat and balance that with craftsmanship? Remember, glassblowing is not for the faint of heart!
All colors and supplies are included in this class. Enrollment is kept to 6 per class, to ensure everyone is getting the attention they need to create some sort of vessel that can hold a cold beverage. The results may not be pretty, but the effort is the journey. Teamwork is encouraged and needed to make this class a success for all participants.
Class starts with a safety and info session and then the hands-on begins! YOUR dad will be dipping up the molten glass himself, learning to maneuver the pipe on the marver and using various hand tools. Then, with the help of our skilled instructors and the other students in the class, he’ll design and fabricate his very own drinking vessel.
This class in not for the faint of heart, it will be hot, challenging, and different from anything he has done before. Be prepared to sweat, get frustrated, and get happy when the challenge is accomplished. This is a team sport in some regards so students are encouraged and will also need to rely on fellow classmates.
Our instructors are here to assist, encourage, and teach however; the final product is completely up to the student. Expect the glass to be wonky, crooked, thick and clunky or it could turn out great. It will be functional, being pretty is another story, but it will be totally unique. Glassblowing is a skill that takes many years of practice and refinement; no one is a master in the beginning.
Light snacks and beverages are provided and all materials are included. All glass made during the class will be available for pickup the following Wednesday after the cooling process is completed.
Be sure to make arrangements with your dad for a day of drinks on the summer patio after the class and let him tell you about his experience. It will be the memory of a lifetime!
