How do I get started?

Look over the workshop descriptions, pick the one that works for you, and register on-line. Our simple drop down menu will walk you thru the available dates. Payment is due at time of registration. If signing up multiple people, we suggest you call the studio at 313-561-4527. Gift certificates are also available – call the studio to inquire.

Who takes these workshops?

Everyone! Male, female, young or old, we have college age students, homemakers, and retiree’s. Even children over 16 can attend with an adult for the hands-on workshops. Our workshops give you an opportunity to meet many other like-minded individuals who have said: “I’ve always wanted to try glassblowing”.

What can I expect?

Our workshops are FUN!! There is no other way to describe it. You will forget about everything going on in your life and just focus on the amazing medium of glass. Wear comfortable clothing because you will be moving about, having ?discussions, and experimenting with the glass. Our workshops are designed with specific projects in mind so when possible, each student will make one hand-crafted item to take home once it has cooled off and is ready. Advanced courses and independent studio times are not offered at this time.

Are there any additional requirements?

Nope! We supply everything you will need to successfully participate. Camera and note taking is optional. You can always call the studio prior to your workshop should you have any questions.

How many participants are in each workshop?

Participant size varies based on equipment and type, but most enroll between 4-12 students. That’s why it’s very important to register online ASAP to save your space, especially when taking workshops with friends! ?We will inform you if a session is full or does not have the minimum required students and move you to the next session. The website calendar page will list all workshops and when full or cancelled your name goes on a waiting list.

I tried to register for the same workshop session as my friend, but the date wasn’t listed when I checked the website. What happened?

In most cases, if you don’t see it listed on the drop down menu on the registration page, the session is full and you’ll need to pick another date from this menu.

Will I get to take home my projects?

YES!! All of our workshops are designed so that you get one item to take home. If you are taking a workshop that involves hot glass, your items need to cool overnight and will not be available for pickup until the next open gallery day.

Do you give demonstrations?

Yes. During your workshop we will do a short demonstration. We also offer a 1.5 hour long Glassblowing demonstration, lecture, and presentation. Please call the studio to find out the current rates. Artists will talk about the process, give a lecture on the history of glass and glassblowing, answer all questions and more!

How should I dress?

Wear comfortable cotton clothing, this is not the place for skinny jeans! In the spring and summer months, when the weather is warm outside and the furnace heats up the studio inside, wear something light weight such as a t-shirt and shorts or jeans. In the winter months, you’ll want to stay warm so dress in layers with a sweater or sweatshirt over a t-shirt. This is a working studio so wear clothes that can get a bit dirty if necessary.

How much hands-on experience can I expect?

It all depends on which type of workshop you take. Read the description carefully before you register. Some workshops offer a taste of what it’s like while others are completely hands-on and you’ll do everything. Keep in mind, most of our staff has 15+ years of technical skills behind them so they make things look easy. It takes many, many, many, years of practice to become a skilled Artist when working with glass.
