Classes FAQs

  1. How do I get started?

Look over the class descriptions, pick the one that works for you, and call to enroll yourself in the class of your desire, or register on-line. Payment is due at time of registration to reserve your space so be sure to sign up today!!  Gift certificates also available - call the studio to inquire.

  2. Who takes these classes?

Everyone! We have college age students, homemakers, retiree’s, children can attend with an adult, and just about everyone in between. Our classes give you an opportunity to meet many other like minded individuals who have “always wanted to do that”. Come meet some new friends and begin to ‘explore YOUR creativity’ in the glass arts.

  3. What is an average class like?

Our classes are FUN!! There is no other way to describe it. You will forget about everything going on in your life and just focus on the amazing medium of glass. Wear comfortable clothing because you will be moving about, having
discussions, and experimenting with color, shape, size, and patterns of glass. Our classes are designed with specific projects in mind so when possible, each student walks home with a hand crafted item they produced. Advanced courses and independent studio time allow the student to grow to their full capacity while surrounded by working artists in the field.

  4. What is the Glass Certificate Program?

The Glass Certificate program or GCP is a program designed for those individuals who would like to pursue a career in the glass Arts. We offer training and hands-on classes that give you the skills necessary to become a working artist. Our
classes will train you for designing, manufacturing, repairing, and producing works of art to sell at a profit as a full or part time career.

  5. Are there any additional requirements for my class?

Sometimes an instructor will have special needs for their students. Cotton clothing or other natural fibers are always a good idea for clothing at the Glass Academy while colored pencils for sketching are something that is optional. Each instructor has some simple suggestions that can be found on the website listed under each course heading. You can always call the studio prior to your class as well.

  6. How many students are in each class?

Class size varies based on equipment and type of class but most classes only enroll between 4-12 students. That’s why it’s very important to send in your enrollment ASAP to save your space, especially when taking classes with friends!

Speciality workshops can vary as well. From 4 students to a class of 20. We will inform you if a class is full or does not have the minimum required students and move you to the next session. The website calendar page will list all classes and when full or cancelled your name goes on a waiting list.

  7. Will I get to take home my projects?

YES!! Some of our classes are just introduction classes that give you the hands on tools and techniques to get started. However, in many of our classes you will be making projects right away.

Some courses require annealing time or finishing for the work and those projects can be picked up the following week. In
our 8 week courses you will be producing many works to take with you based upon your skill level and willingness to learn.

  8. Do you give demonstrations?

Yes. We offer a 1.5 hour long Glassblowing demonstration, lecture, and presentation for $200. Minimum 15 people, maximum 30. For larger groups we can do two sessions back to back with lunch in between.

This tour is designed for the group that would like to be entertained. After a tour of the studio and all the classroom spaces, participants will relax in comfort as we design and craft a piece of blown glass before the group. Artists will talk about the process, give a lecture on the history of glass and glassblowing, and answer all questions.

  9. How should I dress for class?

Wear comfortable clothing.   In the spring and summer months, when the weather is warm outside and the furnace heats up the studio inside, wear something light weight such as a t-shirt and shorts or jeans (no tank tops allowed).  In the winter months dress in layers with a sweater or sweatshirt over a t-ahirt.  This is a working studio so wear clothes that can get a bit dirty if necessary.
