What is an average class like?

Our classes are FUN!! There is no other way to describe it. You will forget about everything going on in your life and just focus on the amazing medium of glass. Wear comfortable clothing because you will be moving about, having
discussions, and experimenting with color, shape, size, and patterns of glass. Our classes are designed with specific projects in mind so when possible, each student walks home with a hand crafted item they produced. Advanced courses and independent studio time allow the student to grow to their full capacity while surrounded by working artists in the field.

Are there any additional requirements for my class?

Sometimes an instructor will have special needs for their students. Cotton clothing or other natural fibers are always a good idea for clothing at the Glass Academy while colored pencils for sketching are something that is optional. Each instructor has some simple suggestions that can be found on the website listed under each course heading. You can always call the studio prior to your class as well.

How many students are in each class?

Class size varies based on equipment and type of class but most classes only enroll between 8-12 students. That’s why it’s very important to send in your enrollment ASAP to save your space, especially when taking classes with friends!

Speciality workshops can vary as well. From 4 students to a class of 20. We will inform you if a class is full and move you to the next session. The website calendar page will list all classes and when full your name goes on a waiting list.

Will I get to take home my projects?

YES!! Some of our classes are just introduction classes that give you the hands on tools and techniques to get started. However, in many of our classes you will be making projects right away.

Some courses require annealing time or finishing for the work and those projects can be picked up the following week. In
our 8 week courses you will be producing many works to take with you based upon your skill level and willingness to learn.

    Do you give demonstrations?

Yes. We offer a 1.5 hour long Glassblowing demonstration, lecture, and presentation for $200. Minimum 15 people, maximum 30. For larger groups we can do two sessions back to back with lunch in between.

This tour is designed for the group that would like to be entertained. After a tour of the studio and all the classroom spaces, participants will relax in comfort as we design and craft a piece of blown glass before the group. Artists will talk about the process, give a lecture on the history of glass and glassblowing, and answer all questions.

Does the Glass Academy offer any classes for children (12-17 years old)?

We do not offer classes designed specifically for children; however, depending on the stature and the age of the child they maybe able to join one of the sampler classes. Because the person must be big enough to manage some of the equipment used in our classes we suggest coming in on Coffee Nights and trying our Drop In Workshop. This way the child can make something while seeing if they can handle the equipment before registering for a 4 hour class. If a child does attend a class, they must be approved through our office and an adult must be present the entire time.
